Design
Vacuum-infused carbon fibre construction was selected to meet performance criteria, anticipated energy consumption and ensure longevity. The hull bottoms were moulded; with the topsides and deck constructed using an innovative modular carbon fibre panel system for manufacturing efficiencies.
Materials
Composite materials really are the only choice for high performance electric ferries, where mass plays such a critical role. The WEBBCo team is experienced in a wide range of composite construction technologies, successfully working with whatever materials and methods are specified by the engineers for each project. Composites offer additional benefits including reduced maintenance costs and longer in-service life.
Manufacturing
Manufacturing efficiencies must be a consideration throughout the design and build phases, and our structural engineering and production teams have this in mind every step of the way. We have a team of passionate and experienced composite builders and project managers on site who are dedicated to efficiency, build quality and continuous improvement, a philosophy which is driven by our senior management but permeates the whole team.
Electrical Engineering
As with the hull design and layout, the electrical system is designed with each ferry’s specific requirements in mind. Bringing regulation compliant electric propulsion to a commercial marine environment is no mean feat, but our team has done it, and has shown that it offers significant advantages for high performance passenger ferries, such as savings on energy bills and a longer operational time without maintenance.
