It started with an idea...
We made the ambitious decision in 2018 to build the first fully electric ferry in the Southern Hemisphere. This led to the establishment of Wellington Electric Boat Building Company (WEBBCO); a company striving towards making Marine Electrification the next logical step on a global scale.

Fraser has built over forty vessels of varying types and sizes as a composite builder, project manager and owner for 20 years of Northland Contract Boat Builders Ltd. He has extensive experience in all aspects of composite construction, boat repairs, refits and insurance work. He has also worked under contract to the BMW Oracle America’s Cup Team.

CEO and Founder | East by West Ferries
Jeremy Ward is the founder of East by West Ferries, a ferry operation that has carried commuters and tourists across the Wellington Harbour since 1989. Jeremy has an extensive background in research and development and operation of tourism and transport related businesses, including inter-island ferry services. A committee member of the New Zealand Marine Transport Association, he is also a member of the wider maritime sector reference group, The NZ Maritime Forum.

WEBBCo is the first Southern Hemisphere company to move high-performance electric passenger ferries from the drawing board to the water. Cutting-edge technological approaches in composite structures, naval architecture and electrification have been brought together for the first time, creating a unique answer to the question of zero-emission marine transportation.
WEBBCo works with experts who use a design-thinking approach to solve highly complex problems. Many of the problems we come across in our projects are dynamic and multi-faceted. It takes creativity, a willingness to consider all perspectives, and the desire to work through iterations to succeed.
